The Store
What the theme is about
This month we invite our students to explore and investigate the magic world of “The
Store”. This themed unit is focused basically in collaboration and learning how we help each
other by exchanging products. Students are invited to create their own store in the classroom and
experience how real market works; not limited to this month but through this school year.
Having the store in our classrooms for the rest of the year it will also help us to easily
make connections with previous and following topics. A real and visible store for our students
gives us the great opportunity to learn more about our young learners and their interests. Invite
your students and their families to bring some toys and other products (fruits, pencils, clothes
*connection with All Dressed up*, etc.) The idea is to have a variety of products in our stores so
students can experience in the maximum the variousness of stores found in our communities and
how they operate. Provide printable fake money to students so they will introduce to the concept
of buying and sale products. Allow older students to create their own paper money and coins.
Encourage students to visit the stores of the other classrooms and find differences and
similarities with their own store. Use the Thinking Routine What is Missing through the year by
asking students “What is Missing from our store?” and refresh the products of our classroom
store. Promote creativity using the Thinking Routine Headline. Encourage sudents to name their
own store.
