6 2. Activities for 1&2’s Step Inside: This routine asks students to step inside the role of a character or object. Reading to your children will expose them to different scenarios, stories and experiences and give them the opportunity to act out their favorite role. Provide concrete materials for children in order to relate with character or/and use costumes. For children two years old and up you can extend with the Thinking Routine Perceive, Know about, Care about in order to get inside viewpoints. You can ask your child: -What can the person or thing perceive? What might the person or thing know about or believe? What might the person or thing care about? Challenge your child’s thinking using recycle materials. Provide them different recycle materials and ask them what can we create with these materials? Use the Form and Change Keys to reinforce this fun activity and encourage them to be imaginative! Form Key: Observe and describe. What makes these materials unique? What they look like? How do they feel?
