Activities for Infants • See/Think/Wonder: This Thinking Routine encourages us to make careful observations and thoughtful interpretations. It helps stimulate curiosity and sets the stage of inquiry. Allow space and time to your young baby to carefully observe and manipulate simple technological tools. Focus on the use of their senses. Follow their wonders and interests and model the language of thinking. Ask your infant what he/she sees when he/she is pointing out. Name colors, shapes and everything that comes to his/her attention. Ask them what they think about it and put words in their actions. Wonder with your young explorer. • Wheel of Wonder: Use this Thinking Routine to introduce the concept of the scientific method. Through the 4 steps, I sense, I wonder, I explore, I discover. As we mentioned in a previous Module, an exciting activity for young babies is to find science in the kitchen. Connect science and technology and enjoy a cooking project with your baby. Using a blender, a mixer, the oven or the microwave prepare something with your baby and talk to them on how these tools improve the way of life regarding cooking! • Form and Change Thinking Keys: Observe and describe. What makes this item unique? What is it like? What does it feel? How can I change this into something different? How can I make it look better? Promote your baby’s imagination and creativity and let him/her design his/her favorite items and or t-shirts by using appropriate art materials such as non-toxic, washable paint.
