Dimensions of Development
The dimensions of development help to understand the different areas of learning and
development in children through their own individuality, which the social and cultural conditions
to which they belong play a very important role.
The VESS model recognizes seven types of dimensions of development and analyzed them
from a perspective that addresses the needs of the 21st century, a century which invites us to
acquire a set of competencies and skills that, coupled with a good attitude, generate some
dispositions of mind that allow us to act in the best way and adapt to a world in constant
evolution:
1. 21st Century Communicative
2. Cognitive
3. Artistic
4. Personal Well-being
5. Learning
6. Citizenship
7. Ethics and morals
These dimensions are directly connected to each other in a complementary way, so it is
essential to get to know them and understand them because these, together, create the skills,
competencies, knowledge, and experiences that children go through at different stages from
childhood onwards.
