Cindy’s House of Style By Cindy Colon Welcome to Cindy's House Of Style, please wipe your feet! This month I have had the pleasure of interviewing artist/singer/songwriter Emma Zakarevicius aka BIG Sexy! Emma is the lead singer for the bands Crazy Mary and Big Sexy Music. Big Sexy Music's self produced debut album "Postcards" can be purchased on iTunes. "In your garden" Big Sexy Music's second album will be coming soon, keep your ears peeled!!!! For all things Emma visit her website www.emzmusic.com Cindy: When did you first discover the wonderful world of make up? ********** Emma: I was always getting into my mum’s make up from a young age. I would layer my little lady eyes with rich midnight blue eye shadow and a ton of mascara and bright lipstick. I thought it was fabulous. Mum’s typical response was to ask if I’d been in an accident because I looked like I had two black eyes. I loved the theatrical aspect of it and playing “dress up” always fascinated me - to be a different character, to change your appearance. It had a mystique to it. I like the play aspect of makeup. I still do. To be able to add some color and a bit of sparkle to your face is always fun. Cindy: How would you describe your style? What are your go to pieces?********** Emma: My style is colorful and coordinated. I love color and being in New York where the cities fashion palette can get very black, I have to mix it up with bursts of color, whether its an accent or totally coordinated down to the bag, shoes and underwear. Color truly brings joy to my day. I go through different phases in terms of my style but no matter what, I have to be comfortable in whatever I’m wearing. I have to feel like I could end up somewhere classy at the end of the day and still fit in. As they say, accessories are the key. I have a whole wrack of scarves, draws full of sunglasses and not to mention my jewelry – a lot of which I inherited from my grandmother. When I am on stage I take it to another level. Different styles suit different aspects of my performance and personality depending on what I’m doing, whether it’s a punk rock glam look or a classic approach. I really enjoy dressing up for the stage and performing is a great excuse to add to the evergrowing collection of dresses I already own. My favorite store in New York is - EnZ’s on 2nd Ave (they also have a store in Brooklyn). When I first went into the store several years ago and tried on every dress my whole perception of myself changed! I thought, just maybe, I could be a star wearing one of these dresses! My favorite go to pieces include hot stockings (the power of sexy stockings cannot be underestimated) and my signature red high heels, because even as an adult, my love for Dorothy’s ruby slippers from the “Wizard of Oz” spills over. There’s no place like home in a red pair of shoes on the New York dance floor!
