“Recurring Chasms”

I struggled to find the words to write this review. For regular readers of All Magazine, you may
remember our review of the previous release by The Washboard Abs (
https://view.joomag.com/mag/0093567001460586732?page=90 ) or the great guest spot Clarke
Sondermann did for us ( https://view.joomag.com/mag/0500499001469229251?page=32 ) and
with the newest release, Clarke (accompanied by an excellent backing band) takes an amazing
artistic leap forward.
(In the interest of full disclosure, I was previously sent a set of demos for ten tracks on this
record and I played them for months waiting for this to arrive)
From the opening moments of “Witching Hour,” to the final notes of, “Veil,” this is a record that
is just amazing. It’s the kind of record I just know I’ll still be playing twenty years from now, the
same way I do “Appetite for Destruction,” and “This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours” (and if you
don’t know those two records I mentioned --- why?).
In a perfect world, the combination of, “Submission,” and “For Icy Moon,” (which are back to
back on the record) would already be a single climbing the charts on its way to being a hit.
I would usually name check a few stand out tracks in a review here, but I just can’t do that, this
is such an amazing release that every track is a stand out.
I picked up the limited-edition cassette + zine version of this release, you should hurry up and
snatch up what is (as of this writing) the last one. You can order it from here:
