Fall is quickly approaching.

It may arrive a month early.

The dry summer heat has been sucking the moisture from a short lived green season.

Crops are coming off well ahead of schedule.

At a time of year when river flows are normally beginning to stabilize, water is scarce.

Agricultural irrigation is in high demand and many streams have been reduced to minimum flows where diversions are present. It’s not great for our trout as this leaves them scrambling for cooler, oxygenated water.

However, some streams which normally run high, fast, and silty, are flowing low and clear, presenting opportunity we rarely encounter.
