Alberta Fishing Guide 2017 Mid-Summer Digital | Page 84

I've had a passion for fishing since I was 2. I'm from the small town of Nipigon Ontario but I've been in Calgary for the past 10 years. There is some great fishing in this province. You just have to take some time to find those right spots.

Patience. You need patience for fishing. I can't express that enough. You can't go to a river/lake expecting to land a huge fish on your first cast, although it happens. I've walked many stretches and trolled many lakes for miles on end and because of that, I found a few honey holes that keep me coming back.

Weather plays a factor when it comes to fishing. Ask yourself these questions: - Where's the sun? Are you casting a shadow on the spot you're trying to fish? I find that this tends to spook fish in the area you're trying to cast/troll in. What's the temperature? Cold, brisk mornings and cooling down evenings. That's what I look for.

What time of day is it? First thing in the morning, those rainbows are looking for breakfast. They're speedy and full of action. Those browns on the other hand, I look for them in the evenings. That's when they're on patrol. Don't let that stray you from fishing at any other time. You'll get them at all hours of the day.
