When ice-out water temperatures start to rise, I can’t help but get excited for aggressive, post spawn yellow perch.
Something about those vivid, bright orange fins bursting out of the water just gets the blood pumping. Perch are a beautiful, yellowish gold color with vertical green striping that make for an awesome paint job. Combined with being delicious table fare and you get one of Alberta’s most sought after fish.
One of my favorite lure series comes from Alberta’s own Len Thompson lures, and I’m sure many of you already have them in your tackle boxes. If not, best stop in at your local tackle shop on your next outing so you can use these 7 tips and techniques that have put me on many Jumbo Perch.
