For most shallow weed bed fishing, you can get by with two lines: a floater and an intermediate sink. But we are now blessed (cursed?) with multiple fly line options, allowing us to really dial in our presentations and tactics. You can now buy clear intermediates, camo-clear intermediates, hover lines/ slow intermediates, midge-tip intermediates, etc. I actually use a hover line which sinks less than 1-inch per second for the majority of my shallow weed fishing, and use my camo intermediate for water over 8ft deep. The slow sink line lets me use more pauses in my retrieve without the fly and line just dropping to the lake-bed.

Experiment with some of these lines, and you will likely enjoy great fishing.
