Week 4

With that big group from week three I started to get a feel for the fast paced run and gun attitude a guide needs to have. But I also began to understand that catching fish wasn't everything to these guys and your personality plays a major role in making a guest’s trip. So with those guests on their way out, a quick changeover occurred and we were fully housed again. This time a group from Chicago. We quickly dealt with the guests' bags and proceeded to get them out on the water for a little walleye tournament. Now I'll admit, my walleye skills are not up to par, and while I did have the lead for a little bit, I asked my guys if we could go focus on pike. Thankfully they agreed. We had some stable weather and fishing just got better and better. With the stable weather came fish pushing up on the shallows, and while a trophy never made it in my boat, the bigger class of 36-41" pike came alive. It was great getting some new anglers into some decent pike by sight- fishing, especially when the little piggies came right to the boat. But all didn't end well. As I was releasing my guest’s biggest fish of the trip I drift onto a reef after cutting the line on a deeply hooked pike. I tried to use my Minnkota to reverse off the reef and I struck rock. I sheered the drive pin out of the brand new Traxxis. Expletive.
