We are excited about 2017 and all the great seed we have to offer . As many of you know , we have changed our business in some ways over the last year . Here are some things we think you should know about , and some key products for 2017 .

In order to simplify and focus the Viking Brand ( which is wholly-owned by A . L .
Seed ), we have transformed it into a brand that does not carry seed with genetically-engineered traits . The reason for the change is simple : it ’ s time
Pea & Pea Mixtures for us to focus on what we know best , which is developing , testing , and supplying non-traited seed . For a decade the fastest-growing part of Viking has been conventional non-GMO and organic seed . We support all streams
Clover , Legumes & Brassicas of agriculture , but we don ’ t have the resources to develop traited seed and compete with Syngenta , Monsanto , and Dow / DuPont . But we do have the
Viking Cover Crops resources and the passion to develop and deliver the best conventional non- GMO hybrids , varieties , and innovation to those farmers that need them .
Viking GS Hybrids are aimed at silage producers , and we are proud of their Native Grasses & Wildflowers performance ! Viking O . 51-04GS came in 1st place for milk / acre in separate trials at the University of Minnesota and Michigan State . ( see page 15 )
Wildlife & Turf
Viking has launched ULTRA-PURE & PURE corn hybrids . For farmers growing corn for a non-GMO specialty market ( either conventional or organic ) this allows you to plant hybrid seed with a guaranteed purity . ( See page 10 & 15 )
Inoculants & Biologicals
Albert Lea Seed is now a distributor / dealer for NorthStar Genetics . You ’ ll still be able to get everything you need from Albert Lea Seed , but all our
Spreaders & Potatoes traited seed will come in a NorthStar bag ( don ’ t worry , we are still carrying your favorite hybrids and soybean varieties ). If you need Roundup Ready Soybeans or SmartStax corn , you ’ ll have the benefit of NorthStar ’ s reach , expertise and expanded choices — as in more maturities and traits ( think LibertyLink Soybeans and RoundupReady2 Xtend Soybeans ). NorthStar is , like us , an independent farm seed company based in Minnesota . We ’ ve worked with them for 20 years . In fact , the first Roundup Ready soybeans we carried were in a NorthStar bag !
