The weather has been a little chilly lately and when its cold, it’s easy to be lethargic and inactive. However, if one really thinks about the long-term effects, rather than just the fleeting comfort, you’d think twice before watching Game of Thrones in bed all day.

Here are a few things to think about before you get to comfy this coming cold season:

Why you should consider exercising on a regular basis

Physical activity can play a large role in improving your day to day mood. Exercise releases feel good hormones called endorphins, which make you feel happier and generally more content. This has a direct correlation to one’s workspace, as you’ll feel motivated and encouraged to be active. Some may even develop a new found sense of discipline, as practicing exercise on a regular basis forces oneself into a regular routine. This can be applied to other aspects of your life such as maintaining healthy eating habits, regular sleeping patterns and a more focused mindset.

Staying Healthy

Studies have shown exercise to be a good way to sustain proper immune function. Aiding in prevention of mild infections such a colds and flu. Regular exercise can also highly lower your possibility of contracting some sort of chronic disease, as it has been shown to improve insulin sensitivity, cardiovascular fitness and body composition. As well as decrease blood pressure and blood fat levels.

How much should I exercise?

As a beginner, a rigorous routine is not advised. Around 30 minutes of cardio 4 times a week, accompanied by two days of strength training is more than enough to get you started. As you become used to the exercise you could begin to build up the intensity. Keep in mind, variation of exercises is key for not getting bored and losing interest. Just like you wouldn’t eat the exact same meal for months straight, you shouldn’t continuously rely on only one workout program for a prolonged period. As muscles will become less and less stimulated over time when doing so.
