lthough there are still two months

until state convention, it's never too

early to start preparing! If you've never attended convention before, you're missing out on so much energy and passion you won't see anywhere else. Simply put, state convention is the culmination of the state and local chapters’ activities and hard work from throughout the year. It means different things for different people. For some, it’s a place to indulge themselves in the intricate culture they love; for others, it’s a second home where they are surrounded by overwhelming support and encouragement. It’s the highlight of the year for the GJCL, and there’s truly something for everyone at convention whether it’s competing in intense certamen tournaments, sprinting at the chariot races, or performing in “That’s Entertainment.”

One thing that truly makes this convention even more unique is the attendance of Lynn Ahrens, the national

Communications Coordinator, who’ll fly down all the way from Ohio to experience the GJCL Convention. This is the first time a non-Georgian is attending our state convention, and it’s so special because it could redefine what it means to truly share a JCL experience for many students. Many GJCLers who have never attended the national convention would be able to meet someone who has seen different perspectives of the JCL on a much larger scale. Likewise, for us to share the GJCL’s own flair at convention seems almost symbolic of what we represent.

Convention is one of those places people go to feel uncomfortable but in the most exhilarating way. Everyone is constantly encouraged to step out of their boundaries and encounter new things and people everywhere. Every hour, every minute spent there is so precious because the only downside to convention is that there is not enough time to experience everything it has to offer. It’s incredibly rare nowadays to be able to attend an event of this nature where people are surrounded by pure support and opportunities at hand to branch out. We, convention go-ers, urge everyone to sign up not just to attend some latin event but to have the experience of a lifetime and make April 20th to 22nd possibly one of the most memorable three days ever.
