EAST SIDE'S

LUPERCALIA

Students of the GJCL willingly threw aside their precious Saturday morning sleep-ins on February 17th to attend the East Side/Lupercalia Certamen tournament. Despite the disappointing cancellation of the East Side tournament in December due to the chaotic snow days, the GJCL Committee managed to combine it with the Lupercalia tournament.

Everyone gathered in the cafeteria while many shuffled through their endless study guides and practice questions, waiting intently for the tournament to commence. However, once it began, all the anxiety and pressure seemed to vanish.

The tournament is perfect for beginning players who’d like to get a gist of certamen and for longtime players who are looking to brush up on their skills. It’s unique in that it aims to provide everyone with a chance to really participate in every round. The nature of the questions ensured that almost none would go dead, and everyone could maximize their experience.

For advanced, the Walton A team took home first place, with North Gwinnett A and Walton B getting second and third, respectively. For intermediate, North Gwinett won first, Northview won second, and Chattahoochee won third. For novice, Walton A got first, with Grayson second and Walton C third. Congratulations to everyone who participated for their effort and admirable dedication that drove them to East Side High School on a bright and early Saturday morning. We also thank Mr. Adams and all the student-helpers from East Side who made this tournament happen!

The Walton advanced team takes home third at the GA/FL tournament! Congratulations to Vineet, Varun, and Arvind.

The North Gwinnett intermediate stare ahead intently, ready for quick buzz at the East Side/Lupercalia tournament. They later took home first place!
