MILTON

“Three. Two. One. Go!”

The challenge: twenty clues. Twenty locations across campus. One hour to make it back and claim victory. Thus the 2018 Milton JCL Selfie Scavenger Hunt began.

As the weather began to get colder in early January, the Milton JCL Executive Board members walked around campus, finding interesting places and making clues, ranging from broad (“AED”) to extremely obscure (“Marsh tombstone”). The best twenty hints were selected, and that’s when the fun began.

On January 31, Milton Latin students raced to the portables after the end of the school day, where everyone ate cookies, read the now-revealed hints list repeatedly, and made team names (such as Team Insole for the team that consisted of freshmen Insiya and Nicole). At exactly 4:00 P.M., all teams ran out of the Latin classroom, timers set, minds focused on the goal. For the next hour, members ran across Milton, finding the hints on the list and then taking a selfie at the specified location. Meanwhile, the Executive Board held a spontaneous party and awaited the return of the teams. Winners would be chosen based on how many hints they had successfully found, as well as the time it took them to return to the Latin classroom.

At 4:45 P.M., Team Nicabella, consisted of juniors Nick and Isabella, claimed victory, successfully managing to find all clues and returning fifteen minutes earlier than expected. As teams were filing in, the officers looked through a plethora of selfies and marked off how many points each team had earned. A tally was kept on the board, and then, at 5:00, everyone prepared for the winners to be announced.

The first order of business was setting up a speaker, and then Imperator Luke Maran synched the Olympic March, setting the mood for the ordeal. Certamen Co-Chairs Rithwik Koppaka and Cassandra Lund dramatically announced the winners, and many pictures were taken. First Place was awarded to Team Nicabella, with Team Brorge in second place (sophomore Briana and freshman George) while third place was claimed by Team Grephen (consisted of juniors Grant and Steven). The winning teams proceeded to claim their prizes. Some of the prizes included headphones, t-shirts, and a battery pack.

After prizes were claimed, everyone decided to celebrate. Spongebob songs were blasted, sunglasses were stolen, and dancing was abundant. At the end of the day, Milton JCL had enjoyed another monthly social event, and it was a success!
