1. Please introduce yourself!

Hi everyone! I’m Lynn Ahrens, National Communications Coordinator and member of the Ohio Junior Classical League. I’m an avid skier, grapefruit enthusiast, fuzzy sock wearer, and a lot of people tell me that I’m like Sid from Ice Age (for better or for worse!). I have been taking Latin since 7th grade and am currently in Latin V—my favorite works I have read so far have been Harrius Potter et Philosophi Lapis and Livy.

2. What do you love most about the JCL?

Honestly, I love how nerdy the JCL is, and how accepting everyone is of this known fact. It’s a Latin convention—who would’ve thought that it would be one of the most amazing and transformative experiences you’d ever have? At convention, though, I fangirl hard for agora/bazaar. I’ll be there an hour before it opens and an hour after it ends to scope out the best merch, get the hottest deals, and recover from a glorious two hours of shopping. I LOVE seeing what people come up with every year from the Pokémon pins with Latin mottos (when Pokémon Go was huge at Indiana University) to the iconic MassJCL fidget spinners at Troy University. It’s safe to say that I spend 95% of my money on agora and the rest on actual sustenance throughout the year.

3. What made you choose the GJCL convention and what part are you most excited for?

Georgia is one of those states that makes one heck of a statement at nationals. From the iconic PG-13 cheer to the funniest group of JCLers you’ll ever meet, I’m in awe at how phenomenal the Georgia JCL is and am honored to have been invited to be a part of it for a weekend. From what I’ve heard through the grapevine and from Lucy Ku, I’m scared and excited to race in chariots and pull my heart out in intense tug of war! I was inspired to attend your convention because Georgia truly takes it to another level. I mean, who else has a dramatic interpretation of wildlife ecology in their schedule or middle school bonfires? I’ve never been to a state convention that was outside and in cabins so this will definitely be a weird and awesome new experience for me :) Of course, I’m super excited for bazaar and for That’s Entertainment as well—I can’t wait to see all of the amazing talents GJCLers have!

"Thank you, Georgia, for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime. I am counting down the days to GJCL Convention, and it would be an understatement to say that I can’t wait to experience the best three days of my life with you all." -Lynn Ahrens
