Ides of March

Parkview JCL decided to change it up this March by dedicating an entire week to the Ides of March. In the year 44 BC, the great Roman general and leader Julius Caesar could not have anticipated the brutality and betrayal that would attack him in the Ides of March. This March, Parkview JCL decided to replicate this brutality and betrayal by putting our members in the daring contest of who can “live” the longest over the course of three days, in respect to actual time for the Ides of March. From March 15, 2017 to March 17, 2017 Senators were encouraged to mark the white cloth of other participants, whom were Julius Caesar, with a red pen. Once a Julius Caesar was dead, they in turn became a Senator and could “kill” other Julius Caesars. Students and teachers all over the school participated in this event, readily jumping into the thrill of murdering their friends and teachers. The success of this event ended with a total of survivors.

Gladiator Fights

One of Parkview JCL’S most popular activities is our famous Gladiator Fights. Members of JCL come together wholeheartedly for the sole purpose of combating against each other. Fighters can choose from a wide selection of swords, shields, battle axes, and spears. Friends can battle each other, using skills and complex tactics while on the battleground to avoid death in battle. Matches are separated into one-on-one battles and team battles. Towards the end of each session, the fighter that wins the most matches is allowed the title of Achilles. In the Achilles Heel match, the one titled Achilles faces many barbarians all at once in an attempt find his weak point and kill him. This event is always a success and brings much joy and excitement to both those that spectate and fight in battle. This ongoing event also contributes to possible activities for NLHS members to participate in.

Saturnalia White Elephant

Every December Parkview Junior Classical League invites its members to join in the fun and festivities of Saturnalia. We usually ask the JCL members to contribute a tealight candle, a food or drink item, and a pet supply donation to the Georgia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. This year, Parkview JCL also introduced the gift giving of White Elephant. In this event, members brought in their own wrapped presents, and then randomly chose presents from under the christmas tree. Many members were surprised yet delighted at the gift they had chosen, some of the wildest ones including a traffic cone, and a wonderful image of Pepe the Frog. The night was unforgettable, and Parkview's JCL will certainly be looking forward to next year's Saturnalia.
