The week of the NLE rolls around, and all participants of the Milton Junior Classical League are feeling stressed. How to relieve it? A party of course! Members of the MJCL gathered in their Rhetor’s classroom on the Ides of March after school, and after the test. Friends met and mingled between groups, catching up on March’s events. Both chocolate chip and sugar cookies were set out and quickly devoured by the hungry teens. Drinks and pizza were ordered (cheese with pineapple, and cheese without) and the festivities began!

The first activity was sword making. Pool noodles, plastic tubing, and duct tape was fished out of the cabinets and, quite crudely at first, assembled into almost-deadly weapons. After the participants had their swords, it was time to “assassinate” our emperor on the 2017 Ides of March! He cowered in mock terror as club members “re-enacted” the famous stabbing of Julius Caesar by Brutus and the senate. As soon as the emperor was declared fitfully dead, the MJCL members got restless and everyone moved outside and (in the wonderful spring air) gladiator fights ensued! A last-minute tournament was hosted by some of the younger members. As the last slices of pizza were eaten, and the final stabs taken all participants agreed that this was another successful party held by the Milton Junior Classical League.

Mountain view

Mountain View JCL, under the tutelage of the Dr. Claymore, has recently competed in the National Roman Civ Exam and the National Latin Vocab Exam as well as the National Latin Exam. Claymore is holding all of the awards this year for a fabulous celebration to happen in May - so none of us know how we did yet - but yay, PARTY!

Our JCL celebrated the Ides of March at our school, providing all Mountain View students the chance to join hands and demonstrate the kind of teamwork that it took to plot and kill the great Julius Caesar. We are proud to announce that some of our Latin bears were accompanied by Latin dawgs North Gwinnett and UGA dawgs - all JCLers - to the MVHS prom. It was a magical night and truly a demonstration of the friendships made through JCL, GJCL and NJCL. Of course, we plan to attend GJCL in 2017 and look forward to seeing all GJCLers in the pollen-filled forests of central Georgia.
