Clarence Roberts also created a career at AERT. The Springdale
High grad is an electrical project manager, but started out as an
apprentice electrician.
“I entered an apprenticeship program right after high school,” he
says. “My dad was an electrician and it was something that came
easy to me.” After completing his apprenticeship and earning his
journeyman license, Roberts worked for two other companies where
AERT was a customer.
“Then I worked with my
dad for awhile doing
residential electrical work,
but thought it was boring.
I was more interested in in-
dustrial electrical work, like
automation and controls,” he
says. He officially joined the
AERT team in 2007.
This is a good company. If you are loyal to
them, they’ll be loyal to you. I love the people
I work with and what we do.
He’s now responsible for figuring out how new pieces of manu-
facturing equipment will work with existing machinery. “It’s a lot of
design work,” he explains. “I oversee the equipment installation and
work with the controls group to make sure everything is programmed
correctly.”
Many careers at AERT do not require a college degree, but for most
you do need a strong mechanical aptitude and a good understand-
ing of how motors and ma-
chinery work, and pneumatic
and hydraulic systems.
If you like science, you might also be a good fit for AERT’s
quality assurance department. The team works in a lab to make sure
products meet standards by breaking decking boards in a machine
that tests for strength and flex. They also use special machines to test
products to see how they’ll withstand sun, heat and other elements.
AERT has a continuous commitment to safety and its employees’
well-being. Its parent company, Oldcastle Materials, provides
benefits including health, vision and dental insurance, paid time off,
competitive wages and a retirement savings plan. To see current
