can be a challenge, but I like that it’s some-
thing different every day,” he says.
April Jackson also moved up at GCC to be-
come the sales coordinator. “I had worked
in construction since I was 18, but I knew
nothing about concrete when I was hired,”
she recalls. After three years in customer
service, she was promoted to her current
role, where she works with the sales staff to
prepare job bids and handles billing. She
says what sets GCC apart from the competi-
tion are it’s people. “I love the people I work
with because they strive every day to do the best for the customer,”
Jackson says.
Driver Santos Mejia agrees. He joined GCC more than three years
ago after hearing about the company from a friend. Drivers at GCC
must be at least 21 years old, have a commercial driver’s license
and some experience. Mejia delivers ready-mix concrete to about
five jobs a day. “It can be a lot of work, but this is a good place to
work,” he says. “People here like to help each other out.” Mejia
says he sees a future at GCC. “I’d like to stay here because there are
opportunities to move up.”
