GCC produces and distributes ready-mix concrete and other construction products. GCC’s projects in our area include the new Arkansas Children’s Hospital Northwest, Walmart Supercenters and Sam’s Clubs, and the new parking deck at XNA. GCC’s Northwest Arkansas division employs more than 150 peo- ple and needs more truck drivers, diesel and industrial mechanics, customer service personnel, plant managers, quality control team members, and sales and clerical staff. “We’re always looking to hire good people who have a strong work ethic, are reliable, professional, can be part of a team and take initiative,” says Fred Vernor, the district manager. “Many of 62 | SPRINGDALE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE our team members start out as drivers, or in customer service. From there, you have opportunities to move up to management roles. We promote from within whenever possible,” Vernor says. Kevin Danner is one example of someone who moved up in the company. He’s a customer service supervisor, but started out as a driver 23 years ago. “From there, I moved up to positions in sales and customer service,” he says. Danner now supervises a team of seven people and is in charge of accepting orders from customers, distributing those orders to the company’s plants, and scheduling trucks to deliver products to each of GCC’s roughly 250 projects across Northwest Arkansas at any given time. “It
