SUGAR E C I N G N I H T Y R E V E SOUTH COAST BAKING in Springdale, a division of Rise Baking Company, sells frozen cookie dough to restaurants and big retailers across the country. The company’s state-of-the-art plants make enough cookies each month to stretch all the way across the United States. “Innovation you can Taste™” is the company’s motto, and they look for innovative team members. They are a relationship-based company where the quality of their people is just as important as the quality of their products. You’ll find an environment that en- courages creativity and values an entrepreneurial and industrious approach to work. “We are looking for people that share our company’s core values and want to make a career here,” says Devin Caples, the Spring- dale plant manager. “We will provide the training necessary to allow new employees the best chance to be successful.” South Coast Baking takes pride in working with creative individuals with a passion for what they do and are always looking to expand their team. Types of careers at South Coast Baking include hourly production, quality assurance, warehouse positions, sanitation personnel, leads, supervisor positions and administrative roles. Many employees start their career in the production department where the cookie dough is made. Team members combine ingredients in giant mixers before the dough is put onto a conveyor belt, shaped into individual cookies and quickly frozen. Another team of workers scoop up the sheets of frozen cookies and pack them in boxes. Boxing up dough may sound simple, but you must have a sharp eye for detail and move quickly to handle this job. Cookies could be the key to your career. Quality assurance technicians may have one of the most popular positions at South Coast – testing the delicious desserts to make sure they meet the company’s standards. They measure to make sure the cookies are the right size and weight, and bake to a golden brown color. “We’ve had several quality assurance tech- nicians start in the production area and move up to this position,” Caples says. The warehouse team also plays an important role at South Coast Baking. In one section, forklift drivers and clerks keep track of raw ingredients. There are pallets stacked with sugar, flour, nuts and chocolate ready and waiting to be used in recipes. In the freezer area, team members organize pallets of frozen cookie dough to be loaded onto trucks and delivered to customers. “We have supervisory positions as well as lead positions in each department,” Caples says. “This allows for growth opportunities and the potential for cross training in other departments.” He says there will be more opportunities as the Springdale plant grows. “Our facility is expanding and we’ve added new production lines and palletization systems. We will also be building on to the facility as the company continues to invest in capabilities and capacity at the Springdale facility.” If you are willing to take on new challenges and can demonstrate teamwork and leadership skills, you could start a career at South Coast Baking. The company offers excellent benefits, includ- ing living wages, medical insurance, paid time off in the first year and paid holidays. Employees can also enroll in a 401(k) retirement savings plan with a company match – a benefit that can really add up later in your career.
