“I feel fortunate. I earn a good living
and will be able to retire when I’m
just 58. I wouldn’t be able to do that
without Walmart.”
Under her guidance, the bakery went from losing money to
making money after she found ways to make it more efficient.
She also made a training video that’s used by the entire
company. She plans to keep growing her career at Walmart.
“My next step is taking part in Walmart’s assistant manager
training program, which could lead to a position as a store
manager or higher,” she says.
“Your career at Walmart can be unlimited,” agrees Michael
Lindsey, the company’s director of public affairs and government
relations. “We invest in training to help advance your career.
For example, our Training Academies offer hands-on training for
hourly supervisors, department managers and assistant managers
by combining classroom and sales floor training to help you learn
the skills needed to run a specific department.”
Tina Stouder recognized Walmart’s commitment to career ad-
vancement. She’s the market human resources field manager. “I’ve
been able to grow my career at Walmart because people here
have helped me,” she explains. “They’ve taught me and given me
opportunities for promotions – I feel like I’m on the fast track.”

She has some advice for others looking to start a career at
Walmart. “A good attitude is important. We look for energetic
people who like to help others and can work as a team. You also
need to be willing to learn and not be afraid to ask questions.”
Walmart works to help you find the position that best fits you. “We
want to take advantage of the skills each person brings to the
company,” Stouder says. Taking some computer classes could also
give you an advantage as you move up. “Computer skills become
more important as you take on more responsibility. Knowing how
to use Word, Excel and PowerPoint is helpful.”
