customer service managers, department managers, assistant man-
agers and store managers.
Scott Swenson is the manager of the Walmart store on Pleasant
Street in Springdale, but got his start running the bakery at a Sam’s
Club in Texas. He took advantage of opportunities to advance and
moved to a job at the corporate office in Bentonville, but realized it
wasn’t for him.
“I decided I like working in a store better,” he says. “So I moved
to being a store manager.” It’s a big job. As store manager, he’s
responsible for all aspects of running the store, including custom-
