New employees can join the family at Star Mechanical and also find a career .
The family owned-business , which began in 1980 , distributes plumbing supplies . The company delivers products for projects ranging from houses to processing plants , said Bryan Taylor , President and Store Manager .
“ Our employees work for a locally owned business where everything stays in the community ,” Taylor said . “ We take pride in being at the top of the pay scale among our competitors .”
New employees start their jobs delivering materials and advance through hard work and learning the business , said Carolyn Fincher , Chief Financial Officer .
Jon Farquharson , 23 , made that 94 journey after starting at Star
Mechanical five years ago . He handles orders that come in online , over the phone and from customers who visit the Springdale location .
The knowledge Farquharson gained from working his way up helps him every day with his sales , he said .
“ I ’ m more efficient by knowing how things work ,” Farquharson said . “ I know our products and I know how the system works in the warehouse . I know how to make it easier for them .”
Farquharson worked at other jobs before starting at the company , but didn ’ t make any plans for his future , he said .
“ After I was here for a while , I realized I could make a career of this ,” he explained . “ I started pursuing it and trying to learn as much as I could .”
