Staff Activities Handbook 2018-19

Exemption

Work / life balance is important for your overall health and well-being as a teacher . Therefore certain roles within the school and Activities / Service programme qualify for exemptions . Any staff wishing to apply for Activities / Service exemption must put their request in writing to Principals by June of the preceding academic year .
This is dependent upon the approval of Principals or the Head of Campus . We will endeavor to space out the exemptions so that we are able to offer a full complement of Activities / Service per season .
Below is a summary of the exemptions available :
New Staff It is advisable that new staff focus on their classroom teaching and settling into the school during Term 1 . New staff are not required to run / offer an Activity / Service in Season 1 in their first year of contract . The Activity / Service commitment is therefore required by all new staff in Seasons 2 , 3 and 4 . The induction programme will include an Activity / Service facility tour and also an opportunity to shadow an existing Activity / Service .
The exception to this is PE , Music , Dance and Drama Teachers who will need to be involved in Coaching or leading an Activity from Season 1 .
Specific Activities Music / Dance / Drama / Coaching – Staff , who are not part of the PE Dept . or Arts Faculty , taking on a major role leading Drama / Music productions ( Producer , Director and Stage Manager ) or coaching a HS SEASAC teams with pre and in-season training / fixtures may consider this as their yearly commitment to the Activity / Service programme .
MUN Leaders who meet with students weekly and lead at least three MUN delegations per year : this will be considered your Activity commitment .
NYAA- Staff making a full commitment as a leader to the NYAA training plus the associated weekends may also consider this to be their yearly commitment .
