Game plan for your farming usiness

Do you have a game plan for your farming business? Who better to help you put together a game plan than renowned Efficient Group economist, Dawie Roodt, and former Blue Bulls and Springbok captain, Victor Matfield, at this year’s Agri Mega Week in Bredasdorp, on 17 and 18 September.

BKB and Efficient Advise, who introduced their new referral agreement to farmers in the Free State and Eastern Cape earlier this year, will be sharing a stand at the 21st Agri Mega Week. The objective is to provide Western Cape farmers with an opportunity to come and meet with and talk to knowledgeable Efficient Advise financial advisors.

“Farming is a complex industry and farmers should make use of specialists as often as possible so that they can focus on farming,” said Roodt, chief economist of the Efficient Group. “A farmer without a financial planner is like a ship without a captain, on a stormy sea!”

In order to ensure the long-term survival of their businesses, farmers need to continuously apply strategic thinking and planning, identify strengths and weaknesses, and manage threats and opportunities. Yet, a plan without actual goals, fixed time frames, set implementation guidelines and a regular review process, is of no use.

BKB and Efficient Advise, the financial planning and advice division of the JSE-listed Efficient Group, joined forces to appropriately address the evolving needs, requirements and expectations of farmers and agri-businesses. This combined and enhanced financial services proposition is delivered through a countrywide network of qualified financial advisers.

Over and above the typical financial support provided by Efficient Advise specialists to farmers regarding estate planning, drawing up and updating of wills and trusts, the optimal structuring of tax, investment management and retirement planning, Efficient Advise can also assist farmers with the planning and implementation of employee benefits.

BKB Agrifin and Efficient Advise offer a range of financial solutions to farmers. “The agriculture sector cannot successfully survive without access to a range of financial services and products that are tailor made for farmers,” says Cobus Oberholster, head of BKB AgriFin.

Oberholster’s research indicated that farmers in South African have a cumulative debt of R102 billion – a dramatic increase from R57.4 billion in 2008. “This accentuates agriculture’s need for financing in order to increase food production by 70% by 2050.”

This also means that farmers must manage their agribusinesses and assets to optimally make use of the credit facility. BKB Agrifin, which developed as a result of BKB’s involvement in their clients’ value chain, provides innovative financial products and solutions. These services include, among others, productions loans, credit line facilities and commercial financing.

Come and meet Dawie Roodt and Victor Matfield, Efficient Group brand ambassador, on 17 and 18 September at the BKB stand. On 18 September you are invited to attend a discussion titled “Your financial game plan” with Dawie Roodt, Victor Matfield, Willem Basson, and Nico Burger.

BKB representatives, Cobus Oberholster and Jacobus le Roux, will also be available at the stand to provide information on BKB’s extensive range of services.
