flash-floods began to occur. The
farmers clubbed together and huge
amounts of alien vegetation were
removed. But they were hoping
that wildlife would also return to
the area, and they wanted to rebuild the ecosystem.

They came up with a fabulous plan
that could also work well on a
smaller scale. Because the area had
been covered with alien vegetation
for so long, there were very few of
the species that should occur in the
area left. In order to re-seed the
area, they chose to plant islands of
vegetation with climax species to-
wards the inside of each island, sub
-climax species surround them and
pioneers around the outside – just
the way they occur in nature, but
on a smaller scale.
Although it will probably take years
before the natural species fully populate the area, and they will have to
