or partaking in the laboratory components. Currently, until the appropriate permits are acquired, samples
are only being accepted from private lands. Western Cape landowners curious about Phytophthora
species in their water sources, soils,
or nearby fynbos vegetation are
encouraged to contact the organizers and arrange sample collections.
Western Cape educators are also
encouraged to contact the organizers for information about educational activity opportunities.
Phytophthora lateralis resistance program
As citizen scientists, participants
could discover a new species of Phytophthora, contributing to research
of global importance, benefitting
the sustainability of natural and
agricultural systems in the future.
