PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This seven-story, 625,000 square foot medical center is one of
the most patient-friendly, technologically-enhanced, and energy efficient full service
medical centers in the world, and innovative construction techniques were used to help
create a physical and emotional balance for healing. A fully integrated approach to
project planning, design, construction, and commissioning enabled the hospital, which
was $50 million under budget, to start treating patients six months before the scheduled
completion date. It is the first hospital in California, the second in the U.S., and the third
hospital in the world to achieve LEED Healthcare Platinum Certified.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Three architecturally-striking 235,000 square-foot
office buildings, a 770-car subterranean parking garage, and a 33,500
square-foot outdoor courtyard with a landscaped gathering space make
this a flexible laboratory space, offering a university-like atmosphere within
an urban environment. The outdoor space includes a performance stage; bocce ball
court; herb garden; fitness areas; a restaurant and a café. In addition to overseeing
campus construction, McCarthy self-performed 41,694 yards of structural concrete
for the building enclosures and foundation. Innovative features of the project include
spectacular cantilever decks overlooking the 805 freeway, 30 feet tall architectural walls,
and skewed columns.
