BUILDING CONSTRUCTION PROJECT: Saburo Muraoka Elementary School CONTRACTOR: Balfour Beatty Construction OWNER: Chula Vista Elementary School ARCHITECT: Runau Runau Clarke PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Saburo Muraoka Elementary is the first public school in San Diego County to be named after a Japanese American. It spans 10 acres with 86,859 square feet of building space, and it features a two-story administration, classroom, and library building; a multipurpose building with an auditorium; and a natural light-filled food service area. The “Innovation Center” is designed to inspire student’s creativity and confidence, and it is the central gathering location for the campus to promote staff, student, and social interactions. A friendship garden with a stone lantern, cherry blossom trees, and Mondo commemorates Saburo Muraoka. BUILDING CONSTRUCTION 14 PROJECT: UCSD Graduate and Professional Services & Mixed-Use Housing – East Campus CONTRACTOR: Brady SoCal, Inc. OWNER: UCSD ARCHITECT: Mithun PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This 580,00 square foot mixed-use residential and common amenities have a total of 1,105 units throughout five separate buildings, as well as a five-story parking garage. The proximity to academia, employment, and recreational activities creates less congestion, air pollution, and infrastructure maintenance. Brady SoCal performed the following scopes while incorporating innovative techniques and materials: framing, drywall, fireproofing, lath/plaster, siding, acoustic ceilings, and specialties.
