Kick Boxing – New Adventure New Champion

Nmai defeated Germany’s own Daniel Dorrer in Germany and hopes to defend his titles in Ghana.

Nii Adotey Dzata1 President of the Ghana Kick Boxing Association told African Sports Monthly that he is happy with the achievements of Ghanaian Kickboxers who are doing well in Europe, Asia, USA and other places but locally they lack basic equipment and funds to organize events, however, they are trying with the support of a few individuals and companies who have stepped up lately.

Also, known as Joseph Mingle, the President urged Corporate Ghana to support sports. He suggested that all the major Ghanaian companies should adopt a sporting discipline and sponsor them for international competitions to save the nation.

A former Kick Boxer with a Bronze medal from the World Championship in Scotland in 2012, he prayed that the government will reward companies that support sports with tax exemptions and other perks.

Nii Dzata said Ghanaians are good in all sports and the youth must be encouraged to participate in sports by building more sports facilities in the country.

He praised the government for putting up the Bukom Boxing Arena through SSNIT, but was not happy with the high price to hire the facility for events, especially so for Junior programmes.

He suggested it should be free for kids and moderate for the youth, so that they can become more familiar with sports and patronize the place to make it functional and keep it busy.

“I wished Ghana’s Kick Boxing had an office there” he said.

Kick Boxing was introduced in Ghana in 2006 and in less than ten years, the nation has been able to produce a world champion in Lawrence Nyanyo Nmai who won the World Martial Arts Committee (WMAC) and World Boxing Council (WBC) Muay Thai 86 kg K1 championship belts in Germany.
