“Then the third one is by and large the Poverty and depravity in the community from which they come. Where they hail from toughens them and helps them prepare to fight for what they want in life and this takes them far in life. Most world champion fighters come from obscure backgrounds to become great champions, they have a hunger in them to fight and survive and this usually leads them to become rich and famous. Great examples are Mike Tyson, Joe Frazier and George Foreman, the exception in this case may be that of Mohammed Ali and a few others who came from good homes. Most world champions come from poor neighborhoods, where you need to fight their way out of poverty to get to the top. That hunger to break that cycle, and determination to achieve and break out makes them go all out in the ring” he expressed.

He said the caliber of Ghanaian boxers like Azumah Nelson has sold Ghana Boxing to the world and many people around the world today know about Ghana Boxing.

Ghana has more potential world beaters and prospects, like Emmanuel Tagoe, Duke Micah, the Samir Brothers; Bastie and Issah, George Ashie, Fred Lawson, Richard Commey who has been robbed twice in his bid for a world title.

He blames managerial problems as the bane of the Boxers. He said boxers need to move to higher levels, so they need to attract good managers of international repute. Boxers cannot be local champions in Ghana only, they need to move out and up with the aid of established reputable boxing managers and promoters to become world champions.

"In Ghana, the dream of every boxer is to become a world champion, so they work extra hard".

The great examples of Boxers who have teamed up with solid managers that have catapulted their careers are Azumah Nelson with Don and Carl King, Ike Quartey with the Accaris brothers in France, and now Richard Commey and Duke Micah who recently secured managerial deals in America.
