GBA President Reveals

“…three things that make Ghanaian Boxers Tough” to ASM

*GHANA* AFRICA'S BOXING NATION

Many people sometimes do not understand why the people of Bukom love boxing.

Popular boxer Braimah Kamoko aka Bukom Banku says the three things that the people of Bukom do best are boxing, football and fishing and that is because most of them do not have the requisite support to earn an education.

He dropped out of Junior High School at Form One to start a career in boxing. One good thing however is that he can read and write, but lacks an advanced education. They are not as exposed to the wider world and face daily hardships in life which pretty much hardens them and gets them ready for a tough life, a common thread of life in Bukom.

Peter Zwennes, President of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) believes in three things that makes the people of Bukom excel in boxing; which in short can be narrowed down to the noble art of Self-Defense.

Most of Ghana’s world boxing champions come from the Bukom area or James Town, and are of the Ga tribe. He said the Ga tribe relishes the art of fighting. In the past they fought with bear knuckles, and the kids love it, so starting from infancy they grow up with that toughness, “they are not afraid of fighting”.

The other thing is the Meals they eat, it is comprised of a staple meal made up of kenkey (corn), Banku and fried fish with pepper. There is no fat and cholesterol, it makes them very strong and hardened.
