Boxing is a sport and a business, so there are many roles one can play to ensure a successful fight night.

We know of the boxers, who take the big stage and are the center of the boxing universe and then there are their trainers and cut men and then the referees, the judges, doctors, card girls, the MC and Ring announcer and of course, the time keeper or rather the ‘Bell man’.

Ghanaian Senior Writer and Journalist for African Sports Monthly caught up with 58 years old Edward Addo, Ghana’s pro boxing only TIME KEEPER / BELL MAN at the Boxing Arena in Accra.

African Sports Monthly (ASM): Good Afternoon Sir, please have you had a personal interview with the media before, I want to make history for you.

Edward Addo: Hmm, No; … No journalist or media has ever interviewed me, but I know my importance in the game, you are the first one to approach me for an interview.

ASM: Hahaha, Ok can you tell me about Ghana’s only Boxing Time Keeper?

EDWARD ADDO: Yes, I am Edward Addo and am a 58 years old boxing enthusiast who has taken upon himself the responsibility of making sure that the time is kept right at boxing events.

"We love boxing because it is our main sport. We love to settle issues with a fight; to know who is stronger, so as to be respected"
