At last, the fight is on. Six years in the making both contenders signed a May 2nd rendezvous, which means Floyd Mayweather will take on Manny Pacquiao. Some critics have said the fight is probably 6 years too late, but the world wants to watch and it will be the richest yet.

After many hurdles and stumbling blocks, breakthrough came when the boxers faced off at a basketball game.

They needed this fight to cement their legacy. It reminds me of the Sugar Ray Leonard v Thomas Hearns fight.

Within three minutes of the Mayweather v Pacquiao announcement, all hotel rooms at the MGM had sold out.

Fans in America will have to dole out around $100 to watch the fight on pay-per-view. Fight Night should attract the Who is who of boxing VIP’s at ringside.

In 1971, when Muhammed Ali fought Joe Frazier in Madison Square Garden, the fight was so jam packed one celebrity could only get into the arena as the bell ringer!

But after all the hype and delay, will this fight live up to expectations?

Mayweather is now 38, and Pacquiao is 36. While Pacquiao has lost two of his last fights, Mayweather, the best pound for pound boxer in history has an impeccable record of 47-0. In his own words “Forty-Seven people have tried and 47 people have come up short.”

Will Pacquiao be the 48th victim or will he be the first to defeat Mayweather?

I guess we will find out on the 2nd of May.
