South Africa has a vibrant and competitive fight sports scene, with a culture that rivals the best around the world. It has its own version of the UFC in EFC Africa and a very respectable boxing community that has produced the likes of former heavyweight Champ, Francois Botha.

In addition to this, entrepreneurs like the owner of Fight Club South Africa, Rudi Van der Westhuizen, has teamed up with international reality series; Last Fighter Standing, with the aim of bringing new energy to the scene and elevating things up a few notches.

Fight Club South Africa is a national chain of gyms, which trains fighters in various forms of martial arts. Many of its clients compete at a high level in various forms of competitive martial arts, mostly mixed martial arts.

Producers of Last Fighter Standing saw the vibrancy of the pugilistic community in South Africa and its strong following, and has decided to expand its reach into South Africa this 2016. Given Rudi’s reputation and credibility, he was an obvious choice to be placed at the vanguard of this outreach effort. Thus, a partnership was born, one that will entertain fans across the entire African continent for years to come.

Upon learning of the proposed reality series through a press release announcing the partnership between Last Fighter Standing and Rudi’s South Africa’s chain of fighting gyms; Fight Club, African Sports Monthly caught up with Rudi himself to better understand what is in the offing for fight fans in SA and Africa.
