The R161 million development
comprises 142 studio, one-bedroom
and two-bedroom residential units
with access from Mutual Street. The
apartment block has been designed
around a landscaped courtyard on
the fourth floor which provides
recreational facilities for residents. One
on Mutual also offers 400m² of office
and 1 550m² of retail space with safe
parking for 210 vehicles.
GASS Architecture Studios, which was
started by Georg van Gass in 2016,
were tasked to design a mixed use
building that would accommodate
the new specification of units. This
building is the first departure and
venture into a higher specification of
units by City Property in their inner
city developments. “We incorporated
the heritage building on the site to
create a new arcade between the new
and old linking the adjacent Capital
towers north building. Thus creating
an “oasis” between the two buildings,”
