African project Lagos ’ s Wooden Tower – Nigeria
The building is divided into four parts . The existing structure and the new building are separated by sky gardens and amenities . The top roof consists of 360 ° view restaurants and lush greenery . Sky gardens also contribute in social gathering between users ; it gives a new natural footprint to the historic city centre which is dominated by massive and heavy buildings built from ceramic , concrete and asphalt .
The envelope highlights Yoruba ’ s culture with their massive presence in the heart of Lagos . Inspiration comes from the history of Edo , Yoruba and Hausa people . Lagos is the oldest site of the Benin Empire and it is clear to see that there is always a traditional hierarchy in this modern city .
The entire structure is built by using an LVL wood system . It is used as both a load-bearing and a non-load bearing structure .
This experimental , smart , tall building is developed through natural , using recyclable and local material . It can be a beautiful landmark for both Ikory and Nigeria .
Through consideration of the context and the local history , the design can improve lifestyle and promote all these points : marketable , serviceable , economical , sustainable , environmental , ecological and social . AD
