SOLID GREEN Q Where do you see Solid Green going within the next 10 years? C hilufya: Our aspiration is to be the leading provider of sustainability services in the country. Whilst we are currently based in South Africa and servicing projects across the region, we would like to establish offices in various hubs while growing local industries and engage professionals. Q Tell us about Solid Green beyond South African borders? M arloes: Extending its reach into Africa; Solid Green are currently doing projects in Botswana, Namibia, Mauritius, Ghana and Kenya, with high expectations that this market will grow and show continued interest in sustainable buildings. Sustainable buildings in these countries have great advantages as they are forced to make use of water recycling and renewable energies in response to limited public sector service delivery, which helps a lot in terms of achieving Green Star certification. Q Which global cities are you inspired by in your work? M arloes: There are no particular cities, but at the moment the Living Building Challenge (LBC) by the International Living Future Institute motivates and inspires me. The LBC is the most stringent sustainable building certification system and requires AFRICAN DESIGN MAGAZINE © | AUGUST 2018 49
