ENVIRONMENTAL SYNERGY Asked how the building complements the surrounding environment and buildings , Koen explained ; “ Constructing a sustainable building means using appropriate materials in the most efficient way possible . We brought about materials and colour that would speak to the broader context of Soweto , whereby Meadowlands , Soweto continues to grow into its urban form . Koen and Associates approached the project to introduce public and urban characteristics into a new exterior and semi-interior urban space to engage with the surrounding people and community .”
Significant construction materials used in the Meadow Point project that contributed to the revitalised and integrated design include : Roof sheeting – Klip-Tite – Colour Raincloud , by Global Roofing solutions ; Hulabond Aluminium cladding for the façade ; Saflock 700 Wall cladding ; ABE Dura-rep cement plaster to give off-shutter concrete look ; Dulux Paints and Porcelain tiles .
Undoubtedly the facelift and augmentation performed by Koen and Associates on the Meadow Point Shopping Centre has rejuvenated the spirit of the community , as Koen confidently states , “ We have met the client ’ s objectives both on the design and aesthetic of the building , as well as their business objectives .”
