MEADOW POINT SHOPPING CENTRE MEADOW POINT SHOPPING CENTRE REVIT A L I S E D K When Retail spaces become tired, what better way to rejuvenate the shopaholic’s spirit than with a revitalising facelift and augmentation? Such was the case with Meadow Point Shopping centre, situated in Soweto’s well established node of Meadowlands, acquired by Dipula Property Income Fund in 2014. oen and Associates Architectural firm were appointed architects and project managers for the ±R26 million upgrade, which commenced in 2016 and was recently completed. The result is a modern, light and bright urban centre that appeals to a broader economic footprint. THE DESIGN Wishing to upgrade the existing 4 729m² of GLA Convenience centre, anchored by Pick n Pay and including KFC, to reposition it more in line with the affluent 42 AFRICAN DESIGN MAGAZINE © | AUGUST 2018 cosmopolitan customers of the area, the client’s brief to Koen & Associates entailed an expansion to 6’500m² of GLA to bring about a stronger national tenant contingent. New sub-anchor tenants Roots and P&L Hardware were brought on, offering a wider service offering which had been lacking in the retail mix. The total build area including walkways is 7’463m².
