THE HILL
ON EMPIRE
More than 25 years ago, MWLF Architects
was established in Johannesburg, South-
Africa. The practice is renowned for
creating innovative, cost efficient, and
functional office parks across South
Africa’s major cities; Cape Town, Pretoria
and Johannesburg. The practice is lead by
5 directors, all of which focus on energy
efficiency and value engineering in order to
provide absolute excellence in progressive
design and modern architecture.

WLF have a long standing
relationship with Abland.
Over the last 25 years they
have designed and developed many
successful office parks together,
including the new Hill on Empire
complex in Parktown, Johannesburg.
Hill on Empire is an office park/precinct
comprising of 4 buildings around a
landscaped square, with a central
coffee shop facility which is perfect
for breakfast, your daily caffeine fix,
light lunch bites, social connecting and

business meetings, built on 3 levels
with a super basement linking all 4
buildings.
Abland approached MWLF with an
open site. The requirement was to
provide 36,000m² of office space to
be built in phases with maximum
tenant flexibility and sub divisibility
which allows for both small and large
tenants. The design and concept had
to be adaptable to change as tenants
of varying sizes were signed up. The
