HKA PIXA DESIGN
PIXA PLACES OTHER DESIGNS
IN THE SHADE
Sponsored by Sunbrella®, the Future of Shade challenges
architects and designers to explore the integral role of
textiles in shade and building design.
S
unbrella partnered with
Architizer, the largest online
community of architects and
designers gathered for inspiration and
idea exchange, to crowd source the
latest thinking on shade innovation.
Hermann Kamte Architects in Cameroon
entered their Pixa creation into the
Future of Shade competition which
called on designers and architects to
create new conceptual visions in shade
design using Sunbrella fabric for three
categories: building shade, wellness
gardens and humanitarian.
Hermann Kampte says that the
company was inspired to create a
modular flexible space for various
outdoor areas. The end product –
Pixa – can be used on a both a small
and large scale.
“Pixa is a flexible and modular structure
which can be easily assembled to create
replicated structures. The interior space
of the steel structure is defined by two
abstract natural elements of light and
shade,” says Kamte.
He says that the light steel structure
is the boundary between indoor and
outdoor spaces, creating semi-open
spaces, while filtering light. At night
the opaque fabric provides a wonderful
sense of muted illumination with LED
lighting connected along the steel pipes
to highlight the space.
