PEPKOR DC WAREHOUSE paint system on Clean COLORBOND ® incorporates various sustainability and long life features including BlueScope ’ s well known Thermatech ® coating system ”.
Constructing excellence Greg Macfarlane from Abbeydale Building and Civils , says that the company has been involved in a number of large industrial warehouses , Hammarsdale Pepkor warehouse is Abbeydale ’ s first large industrial project in KwaZulu-Natal , and arguably it ’ s finest .
Macfarlane says that the team faced three challenges on the project :
The existing platform where the building was to be founded consisted largely of solid rock . To overcome this they employed a team to blast and remove the rock over three phases , to allow for the buildings foundations to maintain the onerous programme .
The engineering team required structural integrity which required Abbeydale to install concrete columns that are in excess of 13 metres high and were required to be poured in a single cast and done in situ .
The team engineered formwork , designed reinforcing , and the concrete mix to achieve this .
The programme schedule was very taxing and had to be broken up into numerous manageable phases , with different teams working on these phases simultaneously .
The contract called for the installation of an FM2 technical report 34 concrete warehouse floor . Abbeydale Construction , in collaboration with international company RCR Flooring , designed and installed a floor that met all the specified criteria .
