AFRICA
Tourism Minister Prisca Mupfumira
emphasised that the designation
of the region as a Special Economic
Zone (SEZ) should not only
concentrate on investment from
outside the country while ignoring
the local people at the grassroots
level. The project will, upon
successful implementation, enable
the Victoria Falls Tourism SEZ to
see the emergence of world class
tourism and hospitality training
institutions that will capture the
attention of the entire SADC region.
The development hopes to see
the growth and construction
of medical & sports tourism,
conferencing (MICE), hotels,
lodges and possibly even a
hospitality school. Victoria Falls
will soon boast a new luxury
boutique hotel called Mbano Manor
(Mbano), to cater for the discerning
international traveller. From
early 2019, the new 19 all-suite
establishment will offer a nature-
based travel experience for the
global, high-end tourist, who seeks
comfort and privacy to commune
with nature.
Hon. Mupfumira said that
Government, through her ministry,
had shown preparedness and
commitment to the development
of the Victoria Falls Tourism Special
Economic Zone by placing the
project under the ministry’s 100-
day work programme.
She challenged the accommodation
sector in Victoria Falls to seriously
consider the domestic tourism
market and not only be focused
on international tourism, as it
presents opportunity for economic
growth and sustainability of the
hospitality industry.
