WSP was appointed to provide sustainability expertise on the project and was responsible for
facilitating the Green Star Certification process in line with the requirements and guidance of
the Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA). The commitment and effort of the
multi-disciplinary project team ensured that the development achieved a 4 Star Green Star
Certification in March 2017 and an As Built certification will be achieved shortly.The façade
design is ideal for the ingress of natural light from the south, while screening the internal
environment from the hot northern and western sun. In an effort to maximise energy
efficiency, materials were very carefully selected.

Aluminium Aerofoil Sunscreens from Alania Building Systems achieved the required
shading, while blending effortlessly with the overall aesthetic. see page 27 for further

The HVAC is a variable air volume system which supplies high volumes of conditioned air
from air handling units located on the facades. Air-cooled chillers located on the roof provide
cool air and eliminate the need for a water supply. continue to page 22
