People Cardinal Turkson to speak on water and faith during World Water Week Kibaki has established the Mwai Kibaki Institute, which caters for several programmes including Water Diplomacy, Green Energy, Coffee Revitalization and many other development projects and activities. Mwai Kibaki is also the Patron of the Millennium Water Alliance, a multi-donor-funded initiative that seeks to make potable drinking water accessible to communities that are under threat of water security and scarcity. His Eminence Cardinal Turkson, President of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, Vatican has been confirmed to speak at the opening of this year’s World Water Week. This August, Cardinal Turkson from the Vatican will partake in the World Water Week Opening Plenary. He will also present the keynote at a panel on water and faith on Monday afternoon. The event will highlight the importance of partnership between Faith Based Organizations and the Water Development Community to achieve the water related Sustainable Development Goals. It will bring together high level representatives of global faith communities including Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Hindu and Sikh representatives to build bridges of dialogue and commitment to the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 6 which proposes to ”Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.” On 5 April 2016, Mwai Kibaki was designated as a UNESCO Special Envoy for Water in Africa in recognition of the former President’s efforts to highlight education as an important tool for the success of waterrelated projects and activities, promote water management in a sustainable manner, support initiatives aiming to make potable drinking water accessible to communities, notably in his capacity as a Patron of the Millenium Water Alliance.
