2015 World Water Week August 23 – 28 Stockholm, Sweden World Water Week in Stockholm is the annual focal point for the globe’s water issues. It is organized by SIWI. This year is the jubilee year for both the Week and the Stockholm Water Prize. The theme is Water for Development. In 2014, over 3,000 individuals and 270 convening organizations from 143 countries participated in the Week. Experts, practitioners, decision-makers, business innovators and young professionals from a range of sectors and countries come to Stockholm to network, exchange ideas, foster new thinking and develop solutions to the most pressing water-related challenges of today. We believe water is key to our future prosperity, and that together, we can achieve a water wise world. International Forests and Water Dialogue 8-9 September 2015 Durban, Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa At the margins of the XIV World Forestry Congress (WFC), this dialogue will convene under the theme, ‘Forests USE water! And forest ecosystems PROVIDE water!’ and focus on the links between water and forests including trade-offs and synergies between water yield and other forest ecosystem services. With the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) being launched this year and water and sanitation operators set to play a major role in their implementation, the SDGs will be the focus of this year’s Congress. The event will welcome those practicing, supporting, studying or curious about using not-for-profit peer support between water operators to improve global water and sanitation services, including: • Water and wastewater utilities • Local and National Governments • • • • Donors and financial institutions Knowledge and academic institutions in the water and sanitation sector Civil society organizations Labour Unions Global Handwashing Day October 15 a global advocacy day dedicated to increasing awareness and understanding about the importance of handwashing with soap as an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases and save lives. Global Handwashing Day is an opportunity to design, test, and replicate creative ways to encourage people to wash their hands with soap at critical times. Handwashing with soap is a “do-it-yourself vaccine” that prevents infections and saves lives.
